Book Review : The Immortals of Meluha – Shiva Trilogy

Hi,

Har Har Mahadev!!! Jai Nilkanth!!! … Don’t get wrongly… I am not going to participate some religious Group (religion never teach to follow rules forcefully, religion always support freedom of human unless it’s not harm the society. But how to identify rule breaker is harmful or harmless that’s different topic… and will discuss later :) ). I completed “The Immortals of Meluha” recently and after completion of book, I proudly prayed great Mahadev and that was the outcome of first 2 expressions.

In this time, numbers of IIT’s and IIM’s students become story teller (actually they have started to say about their love story). They write about either IIT or IIM, describe all girls they seen as beautiful (everyone forget beauty is matter of View like someone said it, “Beauty lies behind eye of beholder”) and put some content of sex (blind follower of Cretan Braga.. Please write something different from him) and book becomes big hit. But some new comer Indian author (yes new comer because there were lots of good authors in early 80 and 90) changes the rule. Like Arvind Adiga – Author of “The White Tiger” and Amish – Author of “The Immortals of Meluha”.

Foremost time, someone has written fiction book based on Indian Mythology. (Please correct if I am wrong). Looking into mythology with the lens of history is marvelous and adventurous. Author gave little bit modern look to mythology which alive all characters. You can feel engrossing adventure with richness of characters and plot.

We have one image of Mahadev (thanks to “OM Namah Shivay” serial) but there are thousands of characteristic of Mahadev as per ShivPuran (How many of people from religion cum political group have read ShivPuran??? It would not be more than your finger count :) ). Amish gave lots of gaze to Mahadev. With characters richness and marvelous story, He raised some issue through Lord Shiva’s eye like vikarma cast (untouchable cast) is unnecessary and we must have to change as life/time change which is very much Eye opener. Amish gave amazing conclusion on Lord Shiva that why he was always unbiased while he is known as destroyer of evil? There is always war between good and evil but no one can recognize it but only Lord Mahadev.

This the first book of Shiva Trilogy (other 2 books yet to come) and it’s definitely a page turner. From my side, it’s 5 out of 5.

    hi sir,
i havent read this book but i want to ask you that is it story of lord shiva?or a story of someone else?
    thanx

      Hey Rahul,

Thanks for visiting my blog… Its story on Lord Shiva but it is a fiction and based on Mythology… So you can not relate each part of story with “SHIV MAHA PURAN”.

Consider Shiva as a Human being and tried to create story around his great life, great work…. Its too good.. If someone not believing in Lord Shiva, then after reading this book at least s/he will feel charisma about Shiva…

If you haven’t read this book then please go ahead, purchase it, read it… I am sure, you will love it…

      Thanks Again , Happy Reading…….

    Hi Ujval

As you said amish has done a great deal of creating a wonderful book. I heard lots about the book but never got a chance to buy one but luckly when i was hanging out in the airport lounge new delhi, happen to see the audio version of immortals of meluha at odyssey. without second thought i bought the CDs.It was completely a nerve racking experience while listening to the audio book. the narration of the book is vivid and to mention the sound tracks at important scenes. I would suggest you to try the audio book as well. I need to appreciate Amish for unique cover page of the book which is also one of the reason for the success and please do watch the trailer of immortals of meluha in youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GP8Qzv2r3iI and sink your self in the trance of immortals…

      Hi,

Thanks for visiting my blog… Actually Amish touched outstanding topic because according to me, describe mythology in terms of philosophy and fiction is very difficult task…

I watched Youtube video (link provided by you)… it’s really wonderful… Surely I will consider you suggestion and will try audio book and share my experience…

Thanks again for comment and visiting my blog….
